A woman’s hair is her crowning glory. You’ve taken the time to find that perfect dress for the upcoming special occasion. Complete your look with a great hairstyle that compliments your evening gown! What is the type of occasion you will attend? A wedding, prom, cocktail party for work, or formal dinner party? The basic formula is to match your hair to the formality of the dress and to the occasion you are wearing it.  Let’s discuss how to find that balance along with cost cutting beauty tips. There’s no need to cringe if you are asked to be in a wedding. Today’s brides are very fashion and budget conscious when choosing bridesmaid’s dresses. If you’re lucky, she’ll be able to hunt down a cheap dress with awesome style! Usually, the type of dress chosen depends on how formal the wedding will be. For example, traditional brides may pick an A-line ball gown or an evening dress with a small train sweeping behind it. With dresses that formal, she would most likely want a formal up do for her bridal party. To keep the attention on the dresses, less is definitely more for the hair. A simple and classy French roll with wispy side curls is a popular choice. Don’t be afraid of a “boring” do! Busy styling with extensive detail could take away from a polished, uniform look. Accessorize to jazz it up if needed. Sprigs of baby’s breath or a rhinestone comb gives that “something extra” without overpowering the up do. A modern bride probably considers a French roll somewhat common. She would pair a sultry bundle of side-swept cascading curls with the contemporary style of a halter topped sheath evening dress. Allowing her bridesmaids to look that sleek may leave the bride fighting for the spotlight! Co-workers are like a second family when you calculate the time spent with them. It’s fun to socialize with one another in a stress free environment during company functions! Select your attire according to the type of function. Is it a semi formal banquet at the end of the quarter to celebrate an increase in sales? Is it the annual Holiday party which is a black tie event? For the banquet you have chosen a fancy cocktail dress. It’s tea length, a little flirty, yet appropriate for mingling with the work crowd. A relaxed half up do will top off the dress! By pinning up the front half of your hair only, you get the glamour of a complete up do without the stuffiness! For the Holiday party, you choose a traditional ball gown. Considering the classic styling of the gown, a classic chignon placed at the back of the neck is a sophisticated combination. A chignon is simple and versatile. Gather your hair at the crown to place it high on your head. Try a side part, middle part or no part at all! Adding decorative pins and barrettes matching your gown shows creative flair. Pulling the hair back too tight causes this style to look severe. Soften it by pulling down thin random locks of hair around your face and curling them with a small curling iron. The Prom. *sigh*  It isn’t just a high school milestone-it’s THE high school milestone! Lots of planning goes into it along with lots of money. Young ladies that are smart shoppers can find places offering affordable dresses-even if you need a plus size! A ball gown is a great choice for prom but not your only option. You are young, so you want to wear your hair in a fresh and youthful way. How about a new twist on an old faithful hair do? The  French braid can be adapted to suit trendy young ladies of today. By pulling down random locks of hair and using a flat iron on them, you have instantly updated this look! For the funky divas out there, adding glitter that matches your dress to those random locks gives you a unique finish! Ladies with long hair-focus on the top potion of your dress. Does it have intricate detail that your hair would cover? Put your hair up to show it off!Ladies with short hair haven’t been forgotten! Simply adding a sparkly headband can be a quick fix. A fluff of your bangs and slicking the sides with gel gives you instant sleekness. Place a few decorative clips at the crown of your head, pulling up the front and sides. Then texture the back with styling wax for an edgy style. Clip pictures from magazines, catalogs and newspapers for hairstyles that capture your attention and store in a notebook. It will come in handy as a reference when trying styles on your own or at the salon. If you struggle with styling, ask a friend with hair savvy for help! It’s a thrifty alternative to the salon. Have a happy hair affair!

Prom Hairstyle Ideas

Too often, girls get caught up in that all-consuming search to find the perfect dress, fabulous shoes, and sometimes even Mr. Right! Small things make a big difference, however. A terrible case of bed head can make your expensive fancy dress look not so great. Why spend time making yourself up or money on flashy jewelry, when all eyes will be on your gnarled, messy hair do? Regardless of what type of hair you’re dealing with, there are prom hairstyles to compliment your look. For professional salon hair, consulting with a stylist before your big day can alleviate some of your concerns and will guarantee that you look your best. Looking into the past is an excellent way to discover fantastic hairdos. Making their appearance in the 1920s, Bobs allowed women to sport an edgy and easy care hairstyle that to this day remains popular. And perhaps you could take it one step further. For a chic and elegant prom hairstyle, look to the famous movie stars of the 1930s. The idea is to emphasize a long dress by extending your shape even more with hair styled close by your head, like sculpted waves. To achieve this look, your hair should be, at a minimum, to your chin and, at maximum, to your shoulder with a side part. French-braiding diagonally along the hairline from a side part with the back of the hair coiled up into a low, braided chignon can get long hairstyles to mimic this look. To make it wavy, it will require you to begin with moist hair coated with a jojoba based hair product to shield your hair, molding the waves into shape using a FHI blow dryer with a diffuser and a small size curling iron. An eye-catching low chignon makes a great prom style that works for either straight or curly medium-length hair. A low chignon is a classic formal style that you are sure to have seen in movies, at weddings, and even at luxurious red carpet events. Put your hair into a low ponytail to get this look. If you want a more sexy look, try securing the low ponytail on the side, just slightly beneath your ear. Then, using a no damage style of bobby pins (Scunci’s No-Slip Grip No Damage Bobby Pins are good) wrap your hair in a circle around the lower part of your head. A few wispy locks left out will look great. A hair product to make it shine, along with hairspray, will complete and maintain this style. This is a style that may be best done by a professional. Katherine Heigl and Jessica Simpson have both worn this classic style. Medium-length hairstyles can also be perked up by adding braids, clips, or flowers. You could choose to use extensions if you desire to have long, glamorous hair. Long hair can be fixed a lot of different ways for the prom, yet this can make it much harder to decide. Two popular styles in fashion now are soft down waves and curled updos. Celebrities Nicole Kidman, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Eva Longoria, Miley Cyrus and Angelina Jolie all wear variations on these popular options. Several layers of soft and sensual curls can appear great whether up or down. You can shape your crown into a rock style-star pompadour, and spray and tease the rest to add height and volume. You could try an always classy chignon or a traditional braid. Emina Cunmulaj, Gwenyth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, Debra Messing and Christina Aguilera are all perfect models of the straight, sleek style. Some prom attendees who are very bored with the way they look might want to add extra hair, highlight pieces of their hair or shorten their hair. When considering your prom hairdo, most importantly, plan it way ahead of time and get an appointment. Make sure to schedule your prom hair appointment ahead of time so you won’t be stuck trying to style your own hair at the last minute. If you have planned poorly, no one can save you, so call your stylist in advance and discuss your options. Do your homework. Look at how the movie stars wear their hair on the red carpet, and also go to some virtual hairstyle sites to see what you like and try them on to compliment your facial shape, features, and the dress you will be wearing. Have a good idea of what you want, whether it’s a new salon hair color, hair extensions, conditioning, or just an updo styling; bringing photos from magazines is always helpful.
